Un petit weekend à Budapest, et voici quelques textiles anciens que j'ai rapportés de la brocante et du magasin d'artisanat populaire.
Le panneau mural en point de tige suit une mode de la première moitié du XXe siècle, répandue dans toute l'Europe centrale et septentrionale. Le texte veut dire: "Quelque part dans un petit village, les pivoines ne fleurissent plus". Un chagrin d'amour,sans doute...
La broderie avec les grosses fleurs s'appelle Matyo.  Le morceau rayé est un tablier en laine, appartenant à un costume régional. La broderie au point de croix  est un torchon ou chemin de table en lin. Et la broderie rouge est l'un de maints exemples de magnifiques coussins décoratifs qu'on trouve dans ce pays.

Hungarian Rhapsody No. 1

A short weekend in Budapest yielded these vintage textiles, found at a flea market and in a shop selling folk art.
The wall hanging (stem stitch in blue) is in line with a trend during the first half of the twentieth century in all of  Central and Northern Europe. The text means: "Somewhere in a little village, the peonies are no longer in bloom". A sad love story, perhaps?
The embroidery with the large flowers is called Matyo. The striped piece is a woollen apron belonging to a regional costume. The piece with the cross stitch is a linen towel or runner. And the red embroidery is one of many examples of magnificent cushions that you may find in Hungary.
